I had a brisk walk with my daughter after dinner tonight. We had a pleasant conversation, which covered a variety of subjects. I enjoy walking with her and listening to her talk about her day. It’s just nice to get away from the house and share each other’s company. Sometimes, she even asks my opinion on a subject.
That’s a bonus.
I have to approach my relationship with God similarly. There are many days that I get caught in the rut of work, household chores, and miscellaneous responsibilities. Before I know it, the day is over, and I haven’t said two words to God. At those times, I need to take a walk with God.
There are many ways to walk with God. Isaiah tells us to walk in the way of holiness. Solomon instructs us to “walk in the way of understanding” (Proverbs 9:6) and to “walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice” (Proverbs 8:20). Paul wrote that we are to “walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God” (Ephesians 5:2 NASB). John tells us, “And this is love: that we walk in obedience to His commands” (2 John 1:6). And finally remember the words of Moses, “Love the Lord your God, walk in all His ways and hold fast to him” (Deuteronomy 11:22).
Take a daily walk with God.
